Independence Center
Independence Center (IC) is a renowned community mental health organization in St. Louis, dedicated to supporting adults with serious mental illness since 1981. Utilizing the Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation, IC provides a comprehensive range of services that foster a sense of belonging, purpose, and confidence.
Our offerings include three levels of supported housing, case management, psychiatric care, counseling, integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders, and support for employment, education, wellness, and social opportunities. Our programs create a restorative environment, combining community support with targeted resources to help individuals develop and maintain the healthy behaviors needed for independent living.
IC owns 71 housing units with varying levels of support: 24-hour residential care, transitional supportive housing, and permanent supported housing. In 2025, we will add 38 new units specifically for adults aged 55 and older with serious mental illness.
Our membership in the CoC has enhanced our connections with shelters and agencies focused on helping the unhoused. We are actively collaborating with other members to tackle homelessness, expand landlord relationships, and learn from our peers to improve our impact on the community.
