AmeriCorps STL
In addition to running a full-time National Service program focused on Emergency Response, AmeriCorps St. Louis (ACSTL) supports the city's unhoused population by offering year-round weekly daytime sheltering, emergency daytime sheltering during extreme heat, and overnight sheltering during extreme cold. The primary goal of ACSTL’s shelter program is to connect individuals with essential services while providing immediate access to a safe space for rest and physical care. ACSTL fosters a consistent, welcoming environment that helps connect shelter guests with partner agencies, such as medical doctors, Places for People, BJC Behavioral Health, the Veterans Administration, MO Network, and Oak Street Health for Medicare/Medicaid enrollment. Through these partnerships, guests receive critical medical and mental health care, harm reduction products, and assistance in navigating housing services and treatment programs. By providing shelter during severe weather, ACSTL also reduces the risk of illness and death from exposure for those living on the streets. As a member of the Continuum of Care (CoC), ACSTL collaborates with other service providers to better serve its guests and benefits from receiving relevant information, guidance, and support when needed.
