To address the urgent need, the CoC is launching the Warm for Winter Initiative to raise $250,000 for 150 additional shelter beds and critical supportive services needed for stability to help keep people off the streets.
The need for additional shelter beds is crucial, as emergency shelters are operating at a 112% utilization rate, leading to a high turn-away count, according to HMIS data. This data further reveals that in August alone, 449 unique individuals were turned away due to the lack of beds.
